United are readying a £19million move for Real's Raphael Varane

If the latest batch of transfer rumours are to be believed Louis van Gaal has been given the green light to sign defender Raphael Varane by Real Madrid.

It’s obvious that the Dutchman would like to strengthen his defence in the January transfer window and, in my opinion, the young French defender would fit the bill perfectly.

Reports from Spain via Metro UK suggest United are readying a £19million move for the 21-year-old.

The fee would represent another significant investment from the Manchester club but to get a player of his pedigree and potential would be an absolute bargain.

Pace, strength, composure, and leadership, are all qualities a Manchester United defender needs, and Varane has shown on a number of occasions that these are qualities in which he possesses.

Last summer, in signing Southampton’s Luke Shaw, United bought a player who has the potential to be one of the best left-backs in the world and Varane fits the same mould.

At his young age, Varane has already played in Champions League final with Madrid and gone to a World Cup with France – further emphasis that this is a player United should do all they can in order to sign him.
