Liverpool have moved a step closer to signing Gonzalo Higuain after Napoli signed Manolo Gabbiadini as a potential replacement.
The Reds are understood to have wanted to bring the 27-year-old Argentinian hit man to Anfield in the summer, and reportedly have him as a top target this month.
And with former boss Rafael Benitez snapping up the services of forward Gabbiadini from Serie A rivals Sampdoria, the possibility of Higuain moving to Anfield has edged closer.
A bid in the region of £30 million would trigger the player’s release cause, and with Liverpool currently struggling for goals in the striking department, it could be money the club are willing to part with – especially for a marksman who has hit 13 goals for the Naples side this season.
Such a deal could also go through sooner than expected as the Italian side are under pressure to balance the books in order to meet Financial Fair Play requirements.
