Liverpool are believed to have been offered a deal to sign former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe in the January transfer window.
Defoe left the Premier League for the MLS last year, where he joined Toronto FC, but he could already be on his way back to England.
Several clubs have already been linked with a loan deal for the 32-year-old, but according to the Telegraph, Liverpool are the latest side to have been approached over a switch.
Toronto are believed to be keen to offload Defoe on a permanent deal for around £6m – a demand which could prove a sticking point in any potential interest from Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, with the Merseyside club likely to only be willing to take him on loan until the end of the season as a stop-gap solution.
Liverpool have been tipped to bring in a new centre-forward in this month’s transfer window, with summer signing Mario Balotelli yet to score a Premier League goal for the club, while Daniel Sturridge continues to struggle with injury problems.
