Louis van Gaal has told guests at a Manchester United charity dinner that Ryan Giggs can succeed him as boss at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman was present at the event alongside the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Denis Law and Giggs himself and ended the evening by delivering a speech.
A source told the Daily Mail that ‘It was an extremely confident speech and the fans present were lifted by his words. He spoke positively about Giggs, who he described as having all the capabilities to be the club’s next manager and said he is “learning all the time”.’
Giggs filled in as caretaker manager for the last four games of last season, gaining seven points from a possible 12 before Van Gaal arrived in the summer.
The 40-year-old only retired as a player at the end of last season after a record 963 appearances and 34 trophies with United.
