Football is full of coincidences – David Beckham was born at Whipps Cross hospital, for instance – but Manchester United fans will be hoping that fate is at work after Angel di Maria eerily emulated Cristiano Ronaldo by scoring his first United goal with a free-kick meant as a cross.
11 years ago C-Ron scored his first United goal by whipping a free-kick across the Portsmouth penalty area, only to see it evade everyone and end up in the net.
Fast-forward to the present day, substitute Portsmouth for QPR and Angel di Maria has done almost exactly the same thing, curling a delivery beyond his team-mates and QPR’s defence.
The two strikes even came at the same end, and United fans will be praying that this is just the first time of many that the Argentinian copies what his former Real Madrid team-mate did at Old Trafford.
