Great Gunns: Henry and Wenger have both earned their places in Arsenal folklore
Thierry Henry has backed Arsene Wenger's decision to sign a new contract at Arsenal, saying: "I knew he loved the club too much to walk away."
Wenger finally put his signature to a three-year-deal at the Emirates last Friday, and his greatest signing believes the measure of his achievements will only be appreciated when he has gone.
Henry, who scored 228 goals in 376 appearances for the Gunners, said: "Knowing Arsene, I knew he was going to stay - especially after winning the FA Cup final.
"He loves the club so much that I think it is always going to be difficult for him to leave this club, he signed another three years and hopefully they can be successful.
"You only miss people when they have gone and then you will probably realise what he has done for the club."
Henry, 36, is winding down his career with New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer.
The former France international will be part of the BBC's World Cup squadron of pundits in Brazil.
