Manchester United's hopes of signing Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal may hinge on their willingness to include Nani in a deal for the Chilean destroyer.
Numerous reports suggest United's hit-and-miss winger could make all the difference to their bid for one of world football's most well-rounded stars. Adam Crafton of the Daily Mail has the details:
Juventus value Vidal in the region of £40m but United are hopeful that an offer of £30m plus the Portuguese winger Nani in exchange could persuade the Italian side. Patrice Evra is also a target for Juventus but United are reluctant to lose the Frenchman's experience and dressing-room influence.
Stuart Mathieson of the Manchester Evening News reports Nani is "currently in the sights of Juventus." The Serie A champions have a longstanding interest in the 27-year-old and are already said to have had a move blocked for the winger by incoming boss Louis van Gaal, according to a report in May by John Cross in the Mirror.
Juventus were previously linked with Nani in 2013, before he inked a new contract at Old Trafford, reported by Jamie Sanderson of the Metro. If United prove serious about landing Vidal, Nani's stuttering quality on the pitch may be outweighed by his value as a bargaining chip.
Suffice to say the player posted a poor 2013-14 season under David Moyes.
Nani made seven starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League last term, per WhoScored.com. He failed to score or assist and completed just 78.4 percent of his passes in a campaign that defines much of his United career.
Despite showing terrific form during the 2010-11 season, Nani has failed to push on under two managers at the Theatre of Dreams. He is naturally blessed with lightning pace, an excellent touch and lethal finishing power from long range, but he continually fails to highlight such attributes in England. Instead, wastefulness grips his game.
Nani showed a smidgen of quality during Portugal's World Cup campaign, scoring a neat strike during the side's 2-2 draw with USA, but his anonymity in the other two group games underline a player who remains inconsistent.
United may utilise this opportunity to ensure Nani moves on with minimum fuss. Moyes surprisingly helped the winger toward a new five-year deal in 2013, meaning his value remains at the higher end of of the scale.
It is unlikely any elite side can be coaxed into spending around £14 million on his services—his value according to Transfermarkt—suggesting that if Van Gaal wishes to offload, a part-exchange is the method to do so.

While some United fans may be disappointed to see Nani leave without fulfilling his potential, the arrival of Vidal will more than make up for his departure. The Red Devils haven't flaunted such tenacity and bite in midfield since the days of Roy Keane, meaning United will finally possess a central area to be feared once more.
Alongside new signing Ander Herrera, Vidal would significantly improve a currently lightweight midfield. He would also be the marquee signing many supporters are looking for and a statement of intent ahead of the new era.
Nani's exit would also signal a mass changing of the guard and that under-performing stars will no longer be tolerated.
