Manchester United's kit manufacturer Nike will end their long-running deal with the club next year.
According to Reuters, on the day United unveiled their new shirt for the 2014-15 season, the American company have decided to pull out of their current agreement when it expires next year.
Nike have been supplying United since 2002, when they signed a lucrative deal at the expense of Umbro, and which currently costs Nike £23.5million per season. United also get a cut of all shirt sales.
However, a source told Reuters that they no longer see the cost of sponsoring United as making "commercial sense."
"Clearly Nike's football business is booming and they could easily afford to do this (deal).
"They had the right to match any other offer but looking at the deal on the table, they will walk away as it doesn't make commercial sense," the source said.
Nike's decision will clear the way for German giant Adidas to make a lucrative deal with the 20-time English champions.
Media reports had suggested previously that the two had held talks over a £60million-per-year deal.
