Closing in: Rickie Lambert looks set to join boyhood club Liverpool
Liverpool have agreed a fee with Southampton for Rickie Lambert, with the striker set to undergo a medical this weekend.
As Mirror Sport revealed last night, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was lining up a surprise swoop for the England man, as he looks to strengthen his squad for next season.
According to Press Association Sport, Liverpool will pay an initial £4million for the 32-year-old with the possibility of further add-ons.
Lambert is part of Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad and is expected to feature in the friendly against Peru tonight.
After the match at Wembley, he will travel to Merseyside and could be confirmed as a Liverpool player by Monday.
