Wenger: Campbell will be part of Arsenal squad next season

Campbell's Super: The Costa Rica star celebrates after netting against Uruguay

Campbell starred for Costa Rica in their 3-1 win over Uruguay on Saturday in their World Cup opener, scoring one and making another in a shock success for the Central Americans.

"He will definitely come back to us for pre-season," Wenger told the Daily Mail.

"He is maturing well."

The 21-year-old forward has been on the Gunners' books since 2011, but initially struggled to obtain a work permit to play in the UK.

That saw him sent on loan to French club Lorient in 2011-12 and then Spanish side Real Betis the following season.

Campbell was granted a permit in 2013, but was again loaned out last term, playing a starring role as Olympiacos claimed the Greek title, as well as netting in their Champions League clash with Manchester United in Greece.

Speaking after his showing against Uruguay, Campbell told reporters: "Of course I have to go back, because I have a contract with Arsenal.
“The most important thing just now is my country and the World Cup.

"Today was excellent for me, but it would have come to nothing without the contribution of my team-mates.

“Everyone lived up to their responsibilities. I tried to do my best to score goals and my colleagues supported me."
