Heading to the Lu Camp? Suarez may have played his final game for Liverpool
Real Madrid are already targeting the Liverpool striker, with the Spanish clubs believing he has a £70million release clause in his contract.
Suarez’s demolition job on England in the World Cup has made him the hottest property in football.
And he last night took a swipe at England boss Roy Hodgson for remarks he made in the build-up to the Group D clash.
Suarez said: “It wasn’t revenge, but in England they talked about the injury and the coach had words that annoyed (me). The England coach said I was a proven Premier League player, but not world class. So there is the answer.”
His comment seemed to be the opening shot in a bid to move from the Premier League.
He admitted he was desperate to score against England, claiming his critics “laughed at his attitude” in his time at Liverpool, which saw him banned for racism and biting.
Barca now feel the time is right to prise Suarez away from Anfield, even though he signed a new £180,000-a-week contract last summer.
They see him as the centre point of their rebuilding plans under new boss Luis Enrique, with him being one of a deadly front three at the Nou Camp along with Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Real Madrid also sounded out Suarez’s agent Pere Guardiola and they too think they can tempt him to Spain this summer.
Arsenal tried and failed to sign Suarez 12 months ago, believing their offer met the clause in his contract, so any suitors know Liverpool will not let him go without a fight.
But it looks to be heading for another Suarez transfer saga with the Merseysiders confident they can hold onto their star striker after getting him to sign that new deal – and being able to offer him Champions League football next season.
Suarez, who played against England just 28 days after leaving hospital in a wheelchair following keyhole surgery on his left knee, yesterday paid tribute to his family and the support he has received in the wake of Uruguay’s victory in Sao Paulo.
He said: “My wife and my two children are important to me and (physio) Walter (Ferreira) is also important, the goals were for him because of what he did for me. I have to thank him.
“I scored the goals, but he is the man responsible for them.”
